How it is calculated
HIT is a prothrombotic disorder despite the low platelets - the danger is clot, not bleeding, so the answer is switching anticoagulant rather than stopping anticoagulation. Platelet transfusion is avoided. Warfarin must not be started alone in acute HIT, because it can precipitate venous limb gangrene.
