How it is calculated
Caprini stratifies VTE risk to decide prophylaxis, and the decision is always balanced against bleeding risk - a high Caprini score in a patient who is actively bleeding does not mean anticoagulate. Mechanical prophylaxis is the fallback where pharmacological is contraindicated.
