How it is calculated

FEUrea = (urine urea x serum creatinine) / (serum urea x urine creatinine) x 100. It was proposed for patients on diuretics, where FENa is falsely raised, because urea handling is less affected by loop and thiazide diuretics. The evidence is mixed: Carvounis (2002) found it reliable, Pépin (2007) found poor specificity on diuretics.
