How it is calculated

HOMA-%B = (20 x fasting insulin) / (fasting glucose - 3.5), with 100% representing normal beta-cell function in the reference population. Like HOMA-IR it is a research and population tool derived from fasting samples, not a diagnostic test, and it is not valid in someone on insulin.
