How it is calculated

ISTH overt DIC score. It is only valid in a patient with an underlying condition known to cause DIC - sepsis, malignancy, trauma, obstetric catastrophe. Treating the cause is the treatment; blood products are given for bleeding or before procedures, not to correct numbers.
