How it is calculated
Osmotic demyelination syndrome follows over-rapid correction and is irreversible. Chronic hyponatraemia (over 48 hours, or unknown duration) is the high-risk group. In severe symptoms, hypertonic saline raises sodium by 4-6 mmol/L quickly to stop seizures, then correction slows.
