How it is calculated
Burn resuscitation: 2-4 mL x weight(kg) x %TBSA of Ringer's lactate in 24 hours (Parkland is 4). Half in the first 8 hours counted from the time of injury, not from arrival. It is a starting point - urine output (0.5 mL/kg/h in adults, 1 mL/kg/h in children under 30 kg) is what actually guides titration. Formal resuscitation usually starts above 20% TBSA in adults and 10% in children, who also need maintenance fluid. %TBSA excludes simple erythema.

Fluid needed in the first 24 hours after a major burn: 2-4 mL/kg per %TBSA in European practice, of which Parkland is the top. The clock starts at the time of injury, not arrival, and urine output guides the real titration.
