How it is calculated
PEWS aggregates behaviour, cardiovascular and respiratory domains, each 0-3. Its purpose is to catch deterioration early, because children compensate well and then decompensate abruptly - a normal blood pressure in a sick child is reassuring only until it is not. A parent saying the child is "not right" overrides a low score.
