How it is calculated

Most ventilated patients should target RASS 0 to -2. Deeper sedation prolongs ventilation, lengthens ICU stay and increases delirium, which is why daily sedation interruption and light targets became standard. RASS is also the prerequisite for CAM-ICU: a patient at -4 or -5 cannot be assessed for delirium at all.
