How it is calculated
The line halves every 4 hours from its 4-hour value. Which line applies is a matter of local guidance: the UK adopted a single 100 mg/L line in September 2012, while the United States uses 150 mg/L, so the same level can be above the line in one country and below it in another. Valid only for a single acute ingestion at a known time, and only from 4 to 24 hours - a level before 4 hours cannot be interpreted, and the line is less reliable after 15 hours (MHRA 2012). Staggered ingestion, unknown timing or late presentation means treating without the nomogram.
