An enzyme raised in pancreatitis, though also in bowel and salivary disease. It rises and falls early, so it can be normal by the time a late presenter arrives.

When it is low

Pancreatic insufficiency, cystic fibrosis

When it is high

Pancreatitis, salivary gland disease, bowel obstruction, renal failure
