A largely obsolete bedside test of platelet function. Kept here because it still appears in exams and older records, not because it should be ordered.

When it is high
Platelet dysfunction, von Willebrand disease, aspirin or NSAIDs, uraemia. Largely abandoned in practice: it is operator-dependent, poorly reproducible and does not predict surgical bleeding, so platelet function analysers and specific factor assays have replaced it. Included because it still appears in exams and older records.
