About
Total calcium. Most of it is bound to albumin, so a low albumin makes it read falsely low and the value must be corrected.
When it is low
Hypocalcemia: tetany, paresthesias, hypoparathyroid, vitamin D deficiency, pancreatitis
When it is high
Hypercalcemia: malignancy, hyperparathyroidism, sarcoidosis, thiazides
