The enzyme that breaks down fluoropyrimidines, checked BEFORE fluorouracil or capecitabine. Deficiency turns a standard dose into a life-threatening one.
When it is low
Deficient: fluorouracil and capecitabine cause catastrophic toxicity - cardiac dysfunction, colitis, neutropenia, encephalopathy. Uridine triacetate is the antidote
When it is high
Normal activity: standard fluoropyrimidine dosing
