About

Serum magnesium. Low magnesium makes potassium impossible to correct, so it is checked whenever potassium refuses to come up.

When it is low

Hypomagnesemia: arrhythmias, seizures, alcoholism, diuretics, diarrhea

When it is high

Hypermagnesemia: renal failure, excess supplementation, weakness
