Neutrophils, the cells that rise in bacterial infection and fall with chemotherapy. The absolute count, not the percentage, defines neutropenia.

When it is low

Neutropenia: infection risk, bone marrow suppression, autoimmune

When it is high

Bacterial infection, inflammation, stress, steroids, leukemia
