Male	4.5 to 5.5 ×10⁶/µL
Female	4 to 5 ×10⁶/µL

About

Red cell count. On its own it says little; the indices derived from it (MCV, MCH) are what characterise an anaemia.

When it is low

Anemia: blood loss, hemolysis, nutritional deficiency, chronic disease

When it is high

Polycythemia: dehydration, COPD, polycythemia vera, high altitude
