Vitamin B12, a cause of macrocytic anaemia and of neurological damage that can precede the anaemia. Never give folate alone until B12 has been excluded.

When it is low

Deficiency: macrocytic anaemia and irreversible neurological damage. never give folate alone until B12 is excluded. Metformin and PPIs lower it

When it is high

Supplementation, liver disease, myeloproliferative disease
