Range2 to 8 mmHg

About

Pressure in the great veins near the heart. A poor predictor of who will respond to fluid, so a single value should not decide resuscitation.

When it is low

Low CVP: Hypovolemia, vasodilation. May need fluid resuscitation

When it is high

High CVP: Fluid overload, RV failure, tamponade, tension pneumothorax, PE

How it is measured

Measured via central line at RA level. Trends more important than absolute values.
