About
The pressure between beats, when the coronary arteries actually fill. A low diastolic in sepsis reflects vasodilatation.
When it is low
Low diastolic: May indicate sepsis, aortic regurgitation, or vasodilation
When it is high
High diastolic: Isolated diastolic HTN less common, evaluate for secondary causes
How it is measured
Diastolic pressure reflects arterial resistance during cardiac relaxation.
